Minhaj Funeral Services Governance Bylaws

Purpose:

• – Non-profit organization serving the Canadian Muslim community.
• – Provides support during the death of a family member by handling necessary government and religious formalities.
• – Aims to alleviate financial and emotional stress during funerals.

Maximum Funeral Cost Coverage:

• – Covers actual expenses up to CAD$7,000 per deceased member.
• – Financial support includes:
• – Mosque Services Charges
• – Cemetery Lot
• – Grave opening/closing fee

Funeral Coordination:

• – Provides financial and coordination support for funerals.
• – Requires local volunteer presence and partnering mosque with funeral facilities.
• – In the absence of these, financial support is provided up to CAD$7,000.
• – Coordination is strictly according to Sunni Muslim practices.

Membership Eligibility:

• – Open to all Muslims over 18 years residing legally in Canada.
• – International students with valid stay permission can apply but must submit proof of stay annually.
• – Membership for family members includes only unmarried children.
• – Married children will be considered a separate family and must apply for their own membership.
• – Application is done online, membership activated after receiving necessary documents.

Membership Fee:

• – One-time non-refundable registration fee: CAD$150 per family
• – Monthly fee: CAD$20 per family

Membership Cancellation Policy:

• – Non-refundable at any time.
• – Possible reasons for cancellation:
• – Voluntary withdrawal
• – Failure to submit required documents
• – Failure to update account information or pay contributions
• – Non-compliance with organizational policies

Death of a Member:

• – Funeral expenses will be paid by MFS, up to a total of CAD$7,000.
• – MFS will work with local funeral committees to arrange the funeral cost.
• – In case no local committee is available, MFS will pay CAD$7,000 to the family to arrange their own.
• – If the family decides on burial outside of Canada, a lump sum of CAD$7,000 will be paid out.

Financial Transparency:

• – All funds for MFS will be published and shared with all members.
• – Information regarding membership fees and the overall financial status of the organization will be shared annually.
• – Any deficit in funds will be equally distributed among all members to ensure continuity of services.
