Purpose:

  • Non-profit organization serving the Canadian Muslim community.
  • Provides support during the death of a family member by handling necessary government and religious formalities.
  • Aims to alleviate financial and emotional stress during funerals.

Maximum Funeral Cost Coverage:

  • Covers actual funeral-related expenses up to CAD $7,000 per deceased member, subject to availability of funds and approval by MFS.
  • Financial support includes:
  • Mosque services charges
  • Cemetery lot
  • Grave opening/closing fee

Funeral Coordination:

  • Provides financial and coordination support for funerals within Canada.
  • Requires local volunteer presence and a partnering mosque with funeral facilities.
  • In the absence of these, financial support may be provided up to CAD $7,000, subject to approval.
  • Coordination is strictly according to Sunni Muslim practices, which members acknowledge and accept upon enrollment.

Membership Eligibility:

  • Open to all Muslims 18 years of age or older residing legally in Canada.
  • International students with valid stay permission may apply but must submit proof of stay annually.
  • Family membership includes the principal applicant, spouse, and unmarried dependent children.
  • Married children are considered a separate family and must apply for their own membership.
  • Dependent children are covered only until they reach the age of 25 or remain unmarried, whichever occurs first.
  • Upon reaching 25 years of age, or upon marriage prior to age 25, the child must apply for a separate membership to continue coverage.
  • Application is completed online, and membership is activated only after receipt of payment, verification of required documents, and approval by MFS.

Membership Fee:

  • One-time non-refundable registration fee: CAD $150 per family
  • Monthly membership fee: CAD $20 per family

Membership Cancellation Policy:

  • Membership fees are generally non-refundable, except where required by law.
  • Membership may be cancelled for the following reasons:
  • Voluntary withdrawal
  • Failure to submit required documents
  • Failure to update account information
  • Failure to pay the registration fee or monthly membership fees
  • Non-compliance with organizational policies
  • Payment of monthly fees must be received by the 10th of each month.
  • Failure to pay monthly fees for three (3) consecutive months will result in automatic cancellation of membership for the principal applicant and all associated family members.
  • Membership cancellation decisions are made by MFS management.

Death of a Member:

  • Funeral expense coverage applies only within Canada.
  • MFS will pay funeral-related expenses up to CAD $7,000, subject to approval and availability of funds.
  • MFS will work with local funeral committees to arrange funeral services and costs.
  • In the absence of a local funeral committee, MFS may pay up to CAD $7,000 to the family upon receipt and verification of proof of death and funeral-related documentation.
  • If burial is arranged outside of Canada, no coverage applies as a general rule.
  • In cases where a member passes away in the United States, MFS management may, at its sole discretion, approve an exception upon receipt and verification of required documentation.
  • All payments are subject to document verification and approval by MFS management.

Financial Transparency:

  • All funds of MFS will be published and shared with members.
  • Information regarding membership fees and the overall financial status of the organization will be shared annually.

Liability Limitation:

  • MFS shall not be liable for delays, deficiencies, or failures in service caused by third-party service providers, volunteers, or circumstances beyond its reasonable control.
  • MFS’s liability, if any, shall be limited to the amount of approved financial assistance under this policy.

Policy Amendments:

  • MFS reserves the right to amend, revise, or update its policies, fees, coverage limits, and procedures at any time.

Financial Deficit and Member Contributions:

  • In the event that MFS experiences a financial shortfall that affects its ability to provide services, MFS may determine a temporary deficit amount.
  • Such deficit may be allocated equally among active members, subject to approval by MFS management.
  • Any deficit contribution shall be limited in amount, time-bound, and used solely for operational continuity.
  • The reason, amount, and duration of any deficit contribution shall be determined by MFS management.
  • Failure to contribute toward an approved deficit may result in suspension or cancellation of membership, subject to MFS policies.
